Happy Pongal, Tamil Nadu
Here's some kolams from my neighborhood, made in celebration of the harvest festival of Pongal, celebrated in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu where I live. The sugar cane and pot are two common components used in Pongal. A special desert named pongal is made and people buy sugar cane to chew on. In the below photo you see two boys bringing back some sugar cane for the family, driving over the kolam at the entrance of their apartment building. Happy Pongal!
