Buddha Blessing the Persimmons
The Mireuk Daebul (Buddha of the Future) sculpture at Bongeunsa Temple appears to be blessing the persimmons. This autumn fruit is a Korean Buddhist symbol of transformation.
Prior to coming to Korea, I had never tasted a persimmon. I prefer them dried. Interestingly, I read that the high quality fruits come from branches that have been grafted onto another persimmon tree.
