On our way up the hill to the temple, we passed by a series of stalls selling souvenirs, cheap Chinese plastic toys, and other junk. Mercifully, likely due to the early time of the day and not being peak season, most stalls were closed. Around the bend, we were treated to a beautiful landscape that reminded me a bit of the Secret Garden of the Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul. In the middle of a tranquil pond was a tiny island, covered with a low-lying tree. A willow tree gracefully drooped in front of a triple-arched stone bridge. Underneath the bridge, the reflections from the water danced. Tall evergreen trees around the edge of the pond partnered up with trees just beginning to bud. In the background, brown and hazy green mountains completed the picture. All of this was reflected in the still pond.
